After three decades of pursuing diverse professional paths, the members of the popular late-1970’s jazz trio Rio Nido have reunited, bringing their unique renditions of 1930’s and 40’s tunes to audiences again. The Center is thrilled to have Rio Nido (named for a historic resort near San Francisco) on its own historic stage.

The members of the trio are Prudence Johnson,  Tim Sparks, and Tom Lieberman. At the height of their popularity, Rio Nido appeared regularly on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” and played gigs in downtown Minneapolis four to seven nights a week. They also recorded three albums. In December 2015, they performed at the Dakota (in Minneapolis) for what they called an “unofficial CD release party.” As it happened, when they recorded their album “I Like to Riff” back in 1978, it wasn’t available in the United States. Today, the album is considered by many to be a classic of the vocal jazz genre.

Join us for a swinging evening with this acclaimed trio as they bring it all back—just as they did 30 years ago—with their unique brand of artistry, chemistry, and humor.
